SUBTEXT PICTURES is a showrunner-led Australian independent production company founded by Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt.

With 40 years combined experience running writers’ rooms and producing projects from pitch to broadcast, Subtext Pictures makes original, creator-driven dramas with global appeal.

Subtext’s Logie and AACTA-nominated crime thriller Dead Lucky, starring Rachel Griffiths, was SBS’s second highest rating drama of 2018, second only to The Handmaid’s Tale. It was acquired by AMC’s premium streaming service, Sundance Now, in the US and UK, Acorn across Europe and Stan in Australia.

Ellie and Drew were also the creators and showrunners of the Logie award-winning Most Popular Drama House Husbands for its first four series. Between them they have executive produced, produced, written, created and developed hundreds of hours of television. Their credits include Dead Lucky, House Husbands, Cleverman, Lockie Leonard, Wicked Love, Wildside, Love is a Four Letter Word, The Secret Life of Us, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Small Claims, Water Rats, GP, Packed to the Rafters, The Sleepover Club, Blue Water High and Go Big.

In 2017, Subtext was joined by Rebecca Greensill thanks to the generosity of the Australian Director's Guild 'MetroScreen Open Fellowship'. After a serendipitous sojourn as a Paramedic for the NSW Ambulance Service in the late 2000s, Rebecca then worked in the arts and locations departments across various Australian television shows including All Saints, Dance Academy, Rescue Special Ops and Underbelly: The Golden Mile before joining the in-house script team at Home & Away where she served as writer, storyliner and script editor.

In 2016, Rebecca finished her first two short films as writer/director, Happy Guy and Tender, the latter of which had its World Premiere at the G.I. Film Festival in Washington D.C., was accepted into the AACTA #SocialShorts program and was nominated for an AWGIE award. In 2020 she was awarded Enterprise People Funding by Screen Australia and is now the Development Producer at Subtext.

In 2021 her comedy web-series, Miss!, exploring the absurdities of being a primary school teacher hit the very small screen and can be found here. Miss!
