SUBTEXT PICTURES is a showrunner-led Australian

independent production company founded by

Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt.  

 

With 40 years combined experience running writers’

rooms and producing projects from pitch to broadcast,

Subtext Pictures makes original, creator-driven, scripted

television with global appeal.

Subtext's AACTA-nominated After the Verdict, stars

Michelle Lim Davidson, Magda Szubanski, Lincoln Younes

and Sullivan Stapleton. It is now streaming on Stan in

Australia with international distribution being

handled eOne. 

Logie and AACTA-nominated crime thriller Dead Lucky,

starring Rachel Griffiths, was acquired by AMC’s premium streaming service, Sundance Now, in the US and UK, Acorn across Europe and Stan in Australia.

 

Ellie and Drew were also the creators and showrunners of the Logie award-winning Most Popular Drama House Husbands for its first four series. Between them they have executive produced, produced, written, created and developed hundreds of hours of television. Their credits include After the Verdict, Dead Lucky, House Husbands, Cleverman, Lockie Leonard, Wicked Love, Wildside, Love is a Four Letter Word, The Secret Life of Us, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Small Claims, Water Rats, GP, Packed to the Rafters, The Sleepover Club, Blue Water High and Go Big.

In 2017, Subtext was joined by Director and Development Producer, Rebecca Greensill. An AWGIE-nominated writer, Rebecca's short films and web-series have appeared in the AACTA #SocialShorts Program, G.I. Film Festival in Washington D.C., various international Lift-Off festivals and received nominations in the Indie Series Awards. 

A recipient of Screen Australia's Enterprise People Funding and the ADG's Metro Screen Open Fellowship, Rebecca gained extensive production experience in the Art and Locations departments across various Australian television shows including All Saints, Dance Academy, Rescue Special Ops and Underbelly: The Golden Mile before joining the in-house script team at Home & Away where she served as writer, storyliner and script editor. 

In 2021 her comedy web-series, Miss!, exploring the absurdities of being a primary school teacher hit the very small screen and in 2022 screened at World Web Series Mania in New York. Find it on YouTube here: Miss!
